Vickie Jean DeHamer is a native Californian with a lifelong passion for writing.
A journalism graduate of Mills College, she has worked at numerous publications, including the major metropolitan Raleigh News & Observer, writing news, features and columns with humor and an ability to see the world from a different perspective.
She is the author of several blogs with extensive copywriting experience in fields as diverse as fashion, home decor and veterinary science. Her day job as a veterinary emergency hospital manager gives her an insider’s edge for writing copy that resonates with staff and clients.
Pivoting from being a traditional print reporter to writing online made her confront her Luddite tendencies, but somehow she managed. She still firmly believes that no matter how technologies advance, nothing trumps good writing.
She can also use social media like someone significantly younger.
For fun, she writes personal essays and fiction, which she hopes to find the right publishers for one day. She’s been granted entrance to fancy writing retreats, like Hedgebrook and the Vermont Studio Center. For now she’s content to hone her craft in her dark bedroom office, giggling at her audacity, but shares her work with writer friends here and there. Some examples are on this site too.
Above all, she’s a professional, delivering work on time with a pleasant attitude. Let her bring your story to life with the right strategy, the right platform and – especially – the right words.
